Curanderos: They Heal the Sick with Prayers and Herbs
Curanderos: They Heal the Sick with Prayers and Herbs "Not all cures come from the books of scientific medicine," boasts Don Panchito, a folk-healer who makes many appearances in Alberto Treviño-Hernández's Curanderos. With fascinating, firsthand accounts of healings performed with only prayer and herbal remedies, Mr. Treviño-Hernández offers compelling evidence that Western medicine does not have a monopoly on disease prevention and cure. This book should interest anyone who desires a more holistic, spiritual approach to health care.
Customer Review: A wonderful read!
Mr. Trevino-Hernandez truly encapsulated the spirit of folk-healers with his narration of eye-witnessed healings by Don Panchito Torres. He also recounts his childhood experiences with his own mother, who helped her family and others through "prayers and herbs". I couldn't put this book down. What makes this book different from any other is that the author leaves nothing lacking. He provides instructions on how to perform the cures themselves and includes the prayers and complete description of the herbs that should be used along with them. I keep this book by my bedside and has since been a very useful reference tool.
Customer Review: More Than a Cure
Beautiful. Warm. Informative. How often do readers glean ALL of these from a single source? This book not only contains beautiful sketches of the healing herbs mentioned within the text, but Mr. Trevino-Hernandez also includes (between the lines) his strong love of family. This is not the usual how-to book, nor is it an informative book on herbal remedies. Instead, readers will find they yearn for more of these interesting pages, for they will want to get into Mr. Trevino-Hernandez's warm heart to learn more about what makes him tick.
